Day Opportunities for Older People
Day Opportunities are being developed to provide a flexible response to older people’s needs.
These services will offer support either within an individual's home, and/or support to access social and recreational activities in local communities. The services are not based on attendance at a day care centre.
The services, purchased or provided, consist of a range of opportunities designed to promote ordinary living through developing and maintaining links with existing community services.
How do I arrange to access the day opportunities?
You will require an assessment in order to access the day opportunities programmes. This is normally arranged through your local area service team. For information on how to contact your local social work office see How to access services.
What will it cost?
There is no direct charge for the service.
You will pay any costs normally associated with accessing the activities i.e. entrance to swimming, pictures, etc.
Where are the day opportunities available?
These are individual services, tailored to meet your needs and will be arranged, if appropriate, with you following assessment.
What support is available to Carers?
If you are caring for someone, you can ask us to assess your needs. The assessment will look at how best we can support you in your role as a carer.
Support is also available through the carers centres and projects.
Short breaks (traditionally known as respite) can provide a break from caring responsibilities.
