Physical Disabilities

Glasgow City Council provides a range of services for physically disabled people living in the city. These include assessment of needs, equipment to help with the tasks of daily living, funding to meet the cost of temporary adaptations to houses, provision of day service opportunities and supported accommodation.

Specific services are also available to people with sensory impairments

Social Work Services can arrange and pay for services for physically disabled people to be provided by the City Council, voluntary organisations, private agencies and self-help or carers groups.

For information on how to contact your local social work office see How to Access Services

For information on services within Glasgow see Physical Disability Services.

Apart from initial information and advice it is usually necessary to be assessed for a service. There is no charge for assessment but for some services, for example, home care, there may be a charge. This normally depends on your income, for further information refer to the council's social care charging policy. For more information on assessment see What is an assessment?

Information on these, and other, services is available in leaflet format. These are available in portable document format for downloading.  The Adobe Acrobat reader can be freely downloaded from the Adobe web site

The Glasgow City Physical Disability Planning and Implementation Group have produced a Strategic Framework for People with Physical Impairments.
