The Lift

Find out how to find your way to and around the Lift at the City Chambers.

Outside the Lift

The Ground Floor

The door is on the north side of the corridor leaving the area around the Working Staircase, towards the Town Clerk's Office.

The up and down buttons are in a metal panel to the left of the door, about one metre above the floor. These are clearly marked, note that the basement is not for public use.

Second Floor

The lift door is located on the north side of the Councillors' Corridor. The up and down buttons are in a panel to the left of the door, about one metre above the floor. The buttons are clearly marked, note that the first floor is not for public use.

Third Floor

The lift is located on the north side of the short corridor leading towards the kitchen. The down button is in a panel to the left of the lift door, about one metre above the floor. This is clearly marked.

Inside the Lift

There are clear spoken announcements. The buttons are on the near right side of the door as you enter the lift. From the top, these are: 3, 2, 1, Ground (raised), Basement, Doors Open and Alarm. Although the buttons themselves are clearly marked, there is alternative, distinct labelling to your left (east) as you face the door from the inside.
