Community Pride in Pollokshields

Not many Clean Glasgow clean-ups have had the help of a fairy Godmother…

But that was just the case for a group of volunteers in Pollokshields.

More than 100 people of all ages braved poor weather conditions to join in the recent Proud Of Pollokshields (POP) event.

Now in its third year, POP is the brainchild of four local parents who decided that the litter problem in their part of Glasgow needed to be tackled.

This time they joined up with Clean Glasgow for a five-hour event around the Pollokshields area.

Participants signed up to the event at Maxwell Square Park and the Clean Glasgow team handed out equipment such as litter picks, black bin bags and gloves. The volunteers then plotted on maps the streets they wanted to target.

And the Pride of Pollokshields fairy was on hand to sprinkle some magic dust to motivate those taking part.

The Hidden Gardens provided a free barbeque and a local band was on hand to entertain the volunteers, making it an event to remember.
