Greater Govan Environment Trust organised the event and were delighted to gain new members as a result.
The clean-up, on Saturday 28 April, attracted 28 volunteers from as far afield as Shawlands and Knightswood.
They collected litter, including fly-tipping, and cleaned graffiti during the two hour event which was organised as part of the Clean Glasgow campaign.
One volunteer, 17-year-old Jonathon McAlister from Knightswood, found a betting slip – valid for the day – among his haul of litter.
Given that Jonathon had given up his Saturday to collect bags of rubbish, the horse had an appropriate name – ‘Honest Endeavour’.
The Environment Trust now plans to hold regular clean-ups in Elder Park and other parts of Govan – the next one is scheduled for Thursday 17 May at 7pm for one hour, meeting at the Library in Elder Park.
