FRIENDS GET TOGETHER FOR PARK CLEAN-UP

More than 30 volunteers turned out to help at a clean-up event at an East End park.

The Friends of Beardsmore Park in Parkhead had contacted the Clean Glasgow campaign for help in tackling litter and graffiti problems in the area.

The park, between Westmuir Street and Shettleston Road, had been highlighted as a blackspot by the Evening Times and the Friends wanted to do something about it.

With the help of the Clean Glasgow team and other local agencies, the Friends rallied support for a clean-up event on Wednesday 4 April.

Frank McAveety MSP officially launched the event and more than 30 volunteers spent two hours tidying up the park, with the Evening Times on hand to record the efforts.

Now the Friends of Beardsmore Park plan to hold regular clean-up events.
