Did you know that?  Fact about noise.

Nearly a third of people in Britain are annoyed by neighbour noise, and for 14% it has an impact on quality of life. Roughly half of noise makers claim to be unaware they are making a noise that is causing disturbance.

Amplified music remains the main source of noise complaint in England, Scotland and Wales with Barking Dogs a close second - in Northern Ireland dogs cause more complaints.

The UK Noise Attitude Survey found that about twice as many people complain to the police about domestic noise, as to the local Environmental Health Department  (who are responsible for enforcing noise nuisance legislation).

A survey commissioned by the Alliance and Leicester said that a quarter of potential property buyers would be put off by noisy neighbours - only 2% said shabby décor would be a deterrent to house purchase.

Lack of communication with neighbours is thought to be a major reason for increased noise complaints by local authorities.

At the world's first snoring farm, the UK's loudest snorers were monitored - with the one volunteer emitting the loudest snores at 103 decibels - beating the previous world record of 98 decibels.

Cheers by fans at a Scotland game at Hampden Park against Latvia in 1997 reached 114 decibels. For comparison a jet engine is 125 - 130 decibels!

Following complaints about youths playing loud techno music, Knowsley Council visited schools and played Dolly Parton to teenagers until they begged for it to be turned off. Then asked them to consider how their granny would feel listening to their music!  The message was well received.
