Control of Gastrointestinal Illness

 

Advice to persons infected with gastrointestinal illness
  • infected persons should stay off school, work, nursery etc until two day after the diarrhoea stops
  • hands must be washed thoroughly after visiting the toilet or preparing food
  • hand washing with soap and warm water and then drying thoroughly with a clean towel is the most effective way to avoid spreading the infection 
  •  towels must not be shared
  • flush toilet after each use 
  • clean toilet seats, toilet flush handles and washhand basin taps daily or more often particularly after use by a person with diarrhoea
  • to clean effectively use a wipe soaked with a solution of diluted household bleach
  • keep clothing and bed linen clean and wash soiled items separately
