Bulk Refuse Collection


Land and Environmental Services (LES) provides a special uplift service for bulky items of domestic waste.


 


BULK UPLIFT - Christmas and New Year Arrangements

This service will be suspended from 21 December until 8 January 2012.  Normal service will resume on 9 January 2012.

You can still submit a request for a Bulk Uplift during this period and it will be programmed for uplift when normal service resumes.

If your waste material can be recycled you can take it to one of our multi-purpose recycling centres throughout the city.

Please note the new arrangements for the uplift of bulk items from flats.


If you previously placed bulk refuse on the pavement at the front of your property to be collected you now need to put it at the rear of the property next to the bin store area. If you previously placed bulk refuse in a lane at the rear or the side of your property  you should continue to do this. In both cases, you now need to request an uplift by completing the online form.

Request an Uplift of Bulk Items
 
Land and Environmental Services (LES) provides a special uplift service for bulky items of domestic waste. This service is provided to all households in Glasgow and is free of charge for most items however some types of materials are chargeable, or for health and safety reasons cannot be uplifted - see below. 

Items will normally be collected within 7-14 working days from the date of the request, depending on the property type.
 
 
Once you have requested your uplift you must ensure that:

  • all items to be uplifted are placed at the agreed collection point
  • planks of wood must be no longer than four feet in length
  • branches and hedge clippings must also be no more than four feet in length and should be either bagged or tied in manageable bundles

Items that cannot be uplifted

  • cast iron washing poles
  • supermarket trolleys (contact the supermarket concerned)
  • garage doors (metal)
  • garden rollers
  • gas cylinders
  • safes
  • oil (can be disposed of free of charge at one of the recycling centres)
  • car batteries (can be disposed of free of charge at one of the recycling centres)
  • clinical and hazardous waste, phone: 0141 287 2065 for advice on how to dispose of this type of waste
  • storage heaters (In order to ascertain whether asbestos may be present we require details of the make and model number. In the event that the heater does contain asbestos we will contact you).


Items that are chargeable

  • rubble, builders waste and heavy landscape material
  • waste arising from work carried out by a contractor
  • sheds greenhouses and other out buildings
  • tree trunks
  • soil
  • cast iron baths, these must be broken up into manageable sized pieces
  • central heating equipment, including boilers and radiators
  • Windows

The charge is £73.00 plus vat per hour, with a minimum charge of £18.25 plus vat based on both traveling time and time taken to uplift the items.
