Wheeled Bin Refuse Collection

The use of wheeled bins is a more environmentally friendly method of refuse collection and is designed to be convenient for the user.

How the system works
  • The wheeled bin will be emptied on a weekly basis. If you are unsure of the collection day please contact the Council Access Centre for further information. Details on how to contact the Access Centre are shown at the bottom of this page.
  • On the day of collection, the wheeled bin should be placed at the kerbside. It is helpful if it is positioned so that the handles are towards the street.
  • After the bin has been emptied, it is the householder’s responsibility to ensure the return of the bin to their property.
  • All refuse must be contained within the bin. Any refuse placed at the side of the bin will not be collected. If your bin is full hold back non-perishable items until the following week.
  • The standard sized 240 litre wheeled bin has approximately 2½ times greater capacity than a traditional dustbin. This enables most householders to dispose of garden waste in addition to their household refuse, storage capacity permitting.
  • It is important that no heavy items such as soil or rubble are put in the wheeled bin due to the potential safety risk of the bin falling from the vehicle’s lifting gear during emptying. If at any time your bin is considered by our operatives to be overloaded, a sticker will be placed on the lid with appropriate instructions.
  • Although the wheeled bin is made of high quality plastic, hot ashes or corrosive substances should not be placed in the bin for safety reasons.
  • Refuse sacks are not provided to wheeled bin customers.
  • Should you find that one wheeled bin is regularly insufficient to accommodate your normal household waste then please contact the Council Access Centre for advice. Details on how to contact the Access Centre are shown at the bottom of this page. Please note however that there may be a charge for supplying an additional bin.
  • If you find you cannot manoeuvre your bin because of age or infirmity and there is no one else available to help you, then please contact the Council Access Centre for assistance. Details on how to contact the Access Centre are shown at the bottom of this page.
