Refuse and Recycling Collection Service changes
Everyone in Glasgow can now recycle more waste than ever before. To help you do this we have made changes to how and when we empty your bins.
How will this affect you?
- Blue Bin
You can now put cardboard and card packaging into your blue recycling bin and we will empty it every two weeks.
- Purple Bin
You can recycle glass using your purple bin which will be emptied every four weeks.
- Brown Bin
Your brown garden waste bin will be emptied every two weeks from March to November, with a collection of real Christmas trees in January.
- Green Bin
Your green bin will be emptied every two weeks.
Calendar
A calendar that tells you everything you need to know about when to put your bins out and what to put in them will be posted to your home address. Please keep it in a safe place. You will also receive three stickers which you can place inside the lid of your recycling bins.

What can I put in my recycling bins ?

Why recycle?
The Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan sets Glasgow very challenging targets for how much we need to recycle and everyone in the city can make a difference.
By 2013 Scotland must recycle or compost 50% of its waste. In 2020 that target rises to 60% and by 2025 it will be 70%.
By recycling more and limiting the amount of waste we send to landfill sites, we can shrink our carbon footprint, save resources and combat climate change.
We can also save millions of pounds right here in Glasgow. Last year, the council paid £13 million in landfill tax to the Government. By increasing the amount of waste that we recycle, we can make sure some of that money supports the front-line services on which we all rely.
