Activity: The City Council is committed to maintaining Glasgow as a vibrant modern European City. A key element of this is Glasgow's Lighting Strategy, launched in March 2002, it encompasses the lighting of individual buildings and landmarks, street lighting, amenity and festival lighting and lighting as an art form.

In addition, to support local projects, a 'Local Projects Fund' has been established to assist local lighting and art initiatives.

It aims to enhance Glasgow's distinctive character, create interest and vitality after dark and enhance safety.

Phase 2 (2005-08), projects are approved and being developed. Such has been the success of the strategy, that Glasgow hosted a lighting Festival in November 2005.
