Target: |
To complete the development of Broomielaw in line with the Masterplan |
|
Status: |
Broomielaw masterplan approved, 2003 |
|
Activity: |
The masterplan promotes a number of 'themes' which the City Council will continue to endorse within the area: -
- Connectivity
- Urban Consolidation
- Activity Mix
- Integrated Accessibility
- An Active Waterfront
- High Quality Design
Larger Type A office floor spaces and other appropriate commercial developments are encouraged to locate in proximity to the waterfront and Kingston Bridge. The area has attracted sustained apartment development; such activity will continue to be encouraged.
Argyle Street will continue as the principal retail thoroughfare, however additional active ground floor activity is encouraged within the new residential blocks.
A major element of the masterplan will see the completion of the east-west pedestrian route through the area. Plans are also well underway for the redevelopment of the Broomielaw area as a vibrant location that will connect the urban fabric of the area with the city centre.
This spectacular waterside location will become one of Glasgow's major visitor attractions following the development of Broomielaw/ Tradeston pedestrian bridge and the associated quayside and public realm improvements. |
