Activity: |
The regeneration of Hutchesontown started with the formation of the Crown Street Regeneration Project in 1989 which embarked upon implementing a Masterplan over the central Hutchesontown Area (site of Hutchie E, “The Dampies”) involving the development of 900 houses (200 for rent by New Gorbals Housing Association), a supermarket, library, office premises, several local shops, student accommodation, church and a public park.
Immediately following this, New Gorbals H.A. undertook a smaller scale project in Gorbals East involving the development of 350 new build, 100 of which have been provided by the private sector.
In 1998, the Queen Elizabeth Square Area (QES) was masterplanned under the auspices of the Crown Street Project. This project effectively links the Crown Street and Gorbals East Area and provides 600 flats (including 150 for social rent).
Lastly, in taking over the Scottish Homes Hutchesontown Estate, New Gorbals H.A. will complete the east/west linkage by demolishing 2 high rise blocks and completing the 'jigsaw' with a 100 unit scheme and modernising the remainder of the estate. |
|
Concept: |
It is intended that the entire regeneration of Hutchesontown is completed through the Glasgow Housing Association/ New Gorbals Local Housing Office addressing the issue of the ex council stock (1000 units, including 700 in 6 high rise blocks) all of the partner agencies will commit to completing streetscape and environmental improvements to consolidate and integrate the area.
The Council have been major contributors throughout the 15 year period providing complementary investment in the
- Adelphi Training Centre (£6m);
- St Francis Community Centre Restoration (£2m);
- Leisure Centre (£7m); and
- Library (£1m)
- Total investment of £16m.
