Budget: £480,000 for 2005/06
Partners: Strathclyde Police, Fire Search and Rescue, Clydeport, Streetwatch Glasgow (CCTV), Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, Scottish Water, Pride ‘O’ the Clyde, The Tall Ship, Seaforce, The Waterways Trust, The Humane Society and local communities.
Lead: Glasgow City Council.

Target:

To complete the works programme and to continually improve the safety, security and the environment on the river, riverbanks and walkways.

Status:

Complete:
  • Two additional small boats purchased and operational
  • CCTV now implemented
  • New lifebelts and ladders introduced
  • Introduction of street furniture and litter bins
  • Introduction of improved lighting under bridges
  • Introduction of the water safety message and river regeneration on plasma screens in areas of high footfall
  • Introduction of CCTV on the St Mungo
  • Public education of water safety and river regeneration matters
  • Purchase of throw lines

Activity:

It is vital to ensure a safer, cleaner river and waterfront if Glasgow is to continue with its successful development and regeneration of the River Clyde Corridor.

The Water Safety and Environmental Improvement Plan (which continues to develop under the direction of the Working Group) ensures these aims are carried through.

Major funding has been given to the scheme by the Scottish Executive and this has been augmented by further allocations from the City Council.
