The Weir construction allows migratory salmon, sea trout and elvers (young eels) to continue upstream.
Improvements in water quality in recent years enabled the return of salmon and sea trout. Recently even schools of porpoise visited the river at this location. Other notable sightings include otters, mink and seals.
All Salmon, Sea Trout and Eels that migrate up and down the system pass the Weir. Salmon and Sea Trout return to the river, as adult fish, to spawn in the upper reaches. Eels migrate down to the sea, as adults, on their journey to their spawning grounds in the Sargasso Sea.
