All calls relating to Health and Safety are now answered by Customer Service Advisers within the Access Centre. The transfer of call handling to the Access Centre is part of the drive by Glasgow City Council to provide a robust and efficient service to the residents of Glasgow. Together with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Health and Safety Unit of Environmental Protection Services has responsibility for enforcing health and safety law in places of work.
As a general rule the Council has jurisdiction for the service industries and places such as offices, shops, restaurants, pubs and warehouses. The HSE look after the larger manufacturing industries, mines, farms, railway safety and offshore gas and oil installations.
The Health and Safety Unit offers free advice on all health and safety matters to employers, employees and the general public.
