Loan Sharks

Under a pioneering Government project a team has been set up to help people having problems with illegal moneylenders throughout Scotland.

These lenders, more commonly known as Loan Sharks, are people who lend money and charge extortionate rates of interest. They are not licensed as they should be, and sometimes use threats of violence to intimidate those who cannot pay the money back on time.

The team works with other bodies such as the Police, voluntary agencies and debt advice agencies to provide support to those who need it. If you are the victim of a Loan Shark, you can get advice and support. The Loan Sharks team will also investigate and prosecute Loan Sharks.

If you know of a Loan Shark operating in your area or you need help and advice yourself, you can contact the team in confidence.
