Enter the current age of the claimant or elder member of the couple.
Please note that some under 18 year olds will qualify for the 18-24 rate eg incapacity or estranged
from parents. If you award a disability premium to someone under 18 years old the calculator will
award the correct rate in any other appropriate cases you will need to select the 18-24 button.

You qualify for a severe disability premium if you receive middle rate or higher rate care component of DLA (or Attendance Allowance, have no non-dependants* living with you and nobody receives ICA for looking after you.
If you are a couple both you and your partner must receive AA/DLA. If ICA is in payment for one of a couple then select the single box.
*If there are any other people in the house who also receive middle or higher DLA Care (or Attendance Allowance) they will be disregarded.

Savings below a lower threshold are disregarded. Savings above an upper threshold will mean that benefit is not payable.
Select the age of the claimant or elder member of the couple.
The residential care option should be selected when the claimant is in permanent residential care.
In the case of couples please enter the total of all savings.

A residential allowance is only payable for people who were in private residential care
or a nursing home before April 2002. It is not applicable in local authority residential care.
From 7th April 2002 the residential allowance will not be available to new claimants.
It will remain in payment for existing claimants until October 2003.

| The rent figure to be entered here is the eligible rent. In private sector property
the eligible rent will often be lower than the actual rent. Additionally any charges for meals heating etc cannot be included.

From October 2003 people over the age
of 60 will qualify for the more generous Pension Credit.
However for pre October 2003 calculations a person will qualify for a
pensioner premium if they or their partner are over 60.

Other benefits and income.
The upper two boxes have lists of the most common benefit names. If the benefit name does not appear
in the list or it is another form of income then use the boxes below. *To ensure correct
calculations for the savings credit you must enter 'qualifying income' in the lower right box and non qualifying
income in the lower left box.
Please apply any appropriate disregard before entering a value. eg £10 for War Pensions.

A non-dependent is a person over the age of 18 who normally lives in your home.
* It does not include your partner or anyone under 25 receiving Income Support or Income Based JSA
* It does not include any joint owner or joint tenants should you have any.
* It does not include your landlord or your tenants should you have any.
This calculator only displays the earning bands for 2008.

Housing costs are the weekly mortgage interest charges for people who are buying their home.
Housing costs do not include endowment payments, capital repayments or rent.
Housing costs can include interest on loans for essential repairs.
This calculator will round housing costs to the nearest £1.00

You qualify for the family premium lone parent rate if you were a lone parent and have been in receipt of income support on or before 5th April 1998.
A subsequent gap in entitlement to Income Support of less than 12 weeks will be disregarded.
Note that if you are in receipt of a disability or pensioner premium you can not receive the family premium at the lone parent rate at the same time.

You qualify for a family premium if you have one or more dependent children.
This calculator does not deal with reduced rate family premiums that would be payable for children who spend
part of their week in Local Authority care

| You qualify for a enhanced disability premium if you or your partner receive the highest care component of DLA or Attendance Allowance.
If you are receiving the highest rate of DLA Care Component for your child you should select the Enhanced Disability Child box instead.

You qualify for a enhanced disability premium for a child if you receive the highest care component of DLA on their behalf.
Note that you can receive this in addition to the enhanced disability premium for an adult and you will qualify for a premium for each qualifying child.
The additional box is for a second qualifying child .

You qualify for a disability premium if you are under 60 and have been unfit for work and handing in sick lines for more than a year or you receive any rate of Disability Living Allowance.

You qualify for a disabled child premium if you have a dependent child who is either registered blind or receiving any rate of Disability Living Allowance.
Note you qualify for a premium for every disabled child.
The additional box is for a second qualifying child.

This calculator has pre-set values for all Council Tax bands in Scotland.
Please select the correct Local Council, Council Tax band and correct water authority.
The calculator does not consider second adult rebates.

In respect of benefit calculations before April 2003 the rate of benefit paid in respect of 16 year old children did not increase
on their 16th birthday. The benefit rate only increased on the first Monday in September following their 16th birthday.
You will not be able to award any premiums in respect of children unless you have included at least one child.
Note if you want to award premiums but do not want to include a dependants allowance for the child you will need to switch off
the validation.

You qualify for a carers premium if you entitled to Carers Allowance for looking after someone.
Note that if you do not receive Cares Allowance only because you are receiving another benefit you still qualify for a premium.
If both members of a couple are entitled to CA you will get two premiums.

Attendance Allowance and DLA
To save space we have only listed the rates of DLA care and not the rates of Attendance Allowance.
For Attendance Allowance recipients please select the rate of DLA (care) that would be
equivalent.

Bereavement Premium
You must have been aged 55-59 on 9th April 2001 and:
* getting a Bereavement Benefit that has now stopped and
* claiming Income Support as a single person.
