Our first priority is to prevent homelessness.
Whether you are a single person or live with others you may be threatened with eviction, possibly through financial or personal difficulties. Social Work Services may be able to help so the earlier you contact your local social work office the greater the opportunity to help you.
We cannot guarantee evictions can be avoided. However, we will look at your circumstances sympathetically and can help you to work with the people involved in the process.
Glasgow Housing Association has an agreement to refer cases involving children, vulnerable adults or older people to Social Work Services prior to eviction action so that we can see if there is any way that we can help the situation.
What if I am evicted and homeless?
You should contact Glasgow City Council stating that you are homeless and that you wish to apply for housing under the homeless persons provisions of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987. You should contact the office situated at:
Hamish Allan Centre
180 Centre Street
Glasgow G5 8EE
Phone: 0141 287 1800
The Hamish Allan Centre provides an emergency reception centre, 24 hours a day - seven days a week, for any single homeless person.
If the City Council has a duty to provide you with housing under the legislation you will be provided with temporary accommodation until such time as your housing application has been fully considered. If you are refused housing, you should be issued with a letter detailing the reasons why.
If you are homeless with a partner or children you can still go to the Hamish Allan Centre who will assess your immediate circumstances and arrange for a full investigation of your application. You can also contact Social Work Services who will look at your circumstances and assist you in obtaining housing.
It may be that you need someone to look after you because you are ill, disabled or have addiction and/or mental health problems. If this is the case your local social work office can complete a community care assessment in addition to looking at your housing issues.
