Bellahouston Park Cycle Track

Bellahouston Cycle Activity Centre

During the last few years, the track area in Bellahouston Park has been used for a variety of cycling related activities.

For example, cycle training sessions have been carried out, helping many adults to relearn how to cycle and thereafter develop more advanced cycle control skills.

The track has also been used by Scottish Cycling, for coaching purposes, including a children’s ‘go-ride’ cycling club every Saturday morning. During mid-week evenings, the West of Scotland youth squad and the West of Scotland Special Olympics cycle team have also been using the track.

To support the above activities, the bowling green pavilion was refurbished last year and provides changing accommodation, a kitchen and a small lecture area for the delivery of ‘road-craft’ lessons. The Cycle Activity Centre is also home to the ‘Pedal in the Parks’ project which enables people with physical and mental disabilities to cycle.

Land and Environmental Services would like to respond to this new interest favourably and is therefore proposing to refurbish the track. The proposed works include:

  • Improvements to drainage
  • Alterations to the cross-fall of the track, i.e. the outside edge of the track will be raised (7% approx), but remain lower than the height of the mound in the track centre
  • A new bituminous surface will be provided
  • New markings on the track
  • An upgraded link to the park path network
