London Road / Dalmarnock Road

Route Description

The corridor extends from the city centre on London Road to Bridgeton Cross then south on Dalmarnock Road to the boundary with South Lanarkshire Council at the River Clyde. The route passes Bridgeton and Dalmarnock.

Implementation

Works on the London Road / Dalmarnock Road Streamline corridor were substantially completed in June 2006

The main elements of the scheme comprise:-

  • 920 metres of peak hour bus, taxi and cycle lanes operational Monday to Saturday from 7:00am to 9:30am and 4:00pm to 6:30pm:
    • London Road eastbound between Bain Street and Green Street
    • London Road eastbound between Green Street and Tobago Street
    • London Road westbound between Green Street and Bain Street
    • London Rd westbound between Anson Street and Silvergrove Street
    • London Rd westbound between Silvergrove Street and Arcadia Street
    • London Rd westbound between Arcadia Street and Craignestock Street
    • Dalmarnock Road southbound between Baltic Lane and Springfield Road
    • Dalmarnock Road northbound between Strathclyde Street and Springfield Road
    • Dalmarnock Road northbound between Swanston Street and Playfair Street
    • Dalmarnock Road northbound between Playfair Street and Bartholomew Street
  • Introduction of a taxi rank at Bridgeton Cross.
  • Relaxation of existing restrictions to allow taxis, private hire cars and cyclists access to the bus gate at Bridgeton Cross.
  • Introduction of one-way streets on short sections of Birkwood, Allan and Summerfield Streets to reduce right turn conflicts.
  • 4 bus boarders provided to improve bus access and maximise parking.
  • 4 bus stops were amended to improve access and efficient flow through junctions.
  • 295 metres (55 spaces) of pay and display parking provided at shops.
  • 8 loading bays provided.

Initial Review

The initial review (PDF 52k) of the measures implemented is ongoing for this corridor. The initial review report covering Dalmarnock Road was circulated for stakeholder consultation in December 2007.

Following consideration of the feedback received from the stakeholder consultation on the above report, a list of recommended amendments will be produced.
