Introduction & Objectives

The growth in car use is causing congestion, delays, pollution and accidents.  These all contribute to making bus travel less attractive.

Encouraging people who currently use their car to use public transport, for certain journeys, is a key part of Glasgow City Council’s Local Transport Strategy “Keeping Glasgow Moving”.  Making public transport more reliable, more accessible and more attractive on existing main bus corridors is an important step in achieving this goal.

Funding for the development of the Streamline Corridors was provided from the Scottish Executive's Public Transport Fund and bus company, First.

What Are The Objectives?

The main objectives are to support social and economic development and improve the environment by:

  • giving priority to public transport

  • reducing bus journey times

  • providing better passenger information

  • providing a safer environment

  • extending priority to taxis and cyclists
