Timescale

The EERR will be delivered in three distinct phases.

Phase 1 was separately funded, and opened to traffic in May 2010 (see Oatlands section). Phase 2 was tendered in May 2009, with a site start in March 2010 and opened in April 2012. Phase 3 will be procured after the 2014 Commonwealth Games as funding becomes available.

 

Budget

£85 - £90m (June 2008), which includes all land, consultency fees, statutory process costs and construction work for phases 2 and 3. Note, the Camlachie Burn Overflow (Phase 2) was incorporated into EERR Phase 2.

Target

Provide a transport route from the M74 completion at Polmadie through the East End of Glasgow to the M80/M8 junction at Provan Road

 

Status (EERR Phase 3)

Draft compulsory purchase order published 2006.  PLI held in Oct 2008; with the "follow up" recommendation in April 2009 that the scheme go ahead. It will be procured after the 2014 Commonwealth Games after funding becomes available.

 

Activity

The development of this road complements the M74 completion. It will:-

  • Facilitate the regeneration of derelict land and the creation of jobs;
  • Improve pedestrian routes and cycle paths;
  • Relieve traffic congestion and improve road safety;
  • Lessen the potential for localised flooding of the Camlachie Burn
  • Improve access to 2014 Commonwealth Games venues and the athletes village
