Glasgow City Council has invested an additional £8 million in the Roads Investment Strategy in 2010/11 to address the deterioration of the city’s road network which has occurred as a result of consecutive hard winters.
The benefits of this investment programme are that this has enabled
- Over 290 city streets to be resurfaced from April 2010 to March 2011
- An extensive programme of permanent carriageway patching to be undertaken.
Following last winter, which was nationally recognised as the worst winter in 100 years, increased investment totalling an additional £18 million has been allocated in the current financial year 2011/12, demonstrating Glasgow City Council’s continued commitment to addressing the current road condition issues.
This investment programme is delivering
- A programme of resurfacing on the city’s arterial routes, city centre streets, residential streets and approach routes to the M74 and the East End Regeneration Route.
- An extensive programme of permanent carriageway patching to address the potholed areas which have developed throughout the roads network, and a programme focussing on Quality Bus Corridors and major bus routes.
