CITRAC - Centrally Integrated Traffic Control
Based at the Council’s Traffic Control Centre in Glasgow, the CITRAC traffic control system monitors and controls the traffic lights within the City. The system ensures that the traffic signal timings at individual junctions and along traffic routes are correctly synchronised for the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles through the City. Any major faults detected at the sites are automatically reported to the centre to allow quick attendance and repair.
The system is also connected to signals within the neighbouring local authorities of East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire to assist them to manage the traffic within their own Council areas.
Originally installed in 1984, the CITRAC system is now over 20 years old and a project is currently underway to introduce a modern replacement. The new system will be known as the BIAS (Bus Information And Signalling) system and it will have enhanced capabilities to provide priority for public Transport vehicles.
