A new website is available to anyone who wants to plan their journey around Glasgow by foot.

Walkit.com website

Glasgow City Council in conjunction with Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has commissioned a new online journey planner by the multi award winning Walkit.com, available to anyone who wants to plan their journey around Glasgow by foot.

The website allows you to enter your starting point and destination then plots both the quickest and the quietest routes making use of parks, walkways and pedestrian only shortcuts. The website also calculates what distance the route is, how long it will take to walk, CO2 emissions saved by not driving and how many calories were burnt during the walk.

Walking is the most environmentally friendly way to travel and an easy way to stay healthy, counting towards your recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day. Not only that, but walking instead of taking the car for short journeys saves you money and, once you include the time it takes to get parked, is often quicker than driving too.

Glasgow City Council is committed to encouraging people to travel in more sustainable ways that benefit their health, wealth and environment. As well as major public realm projects such as the Clyde waterfront redevelopment and the joint National Lottery funded Sustrans Connect2 project to complete the Anderston M8 “Bridge to Nowhere” the council is keen to use soft measures like walkit.com to help people help themselves to a healthier, wealthier way of life.
