Glasgow City Council Education Services has made a strong commitment to children and young people with hearing impairment and appointed 3 of these posts
Staff are able to assess the hearing status of pre school and school age children, including children with complex needs and children who have additional support needs.
Some children may display problems such as:
- not paying attention
- difficulty with language or reading
- symptoms of hearing loss
The educational audiologist can identify if the problem is due to hearing loss.
Educational Audiology Unit staff:
- advise on amplification systems and offer an evaluation of such systems.
- offer advice on room acoustics and favourable listening conditions in family homes, nurseries and schools.
- provide parent /carer support to families of newly diagnosed hearing impaired children throughout the year.
- work closely with other professionals in health and education and also voluntary agencies to ensure a co-ordinated response to meeting identified need.
