Physical Education is taught in all schools in the city. In primary and secondary schools the 5-14 programme follows the Glasgow Physical Education Programme. This is a detailed programme of lessons in many activities, which include dance, fitness, gymnastics, games and swimming.

The majority of schools will deliver the national guidelines of 2 hours physical education per week. See the Scottish Government Physical Activity Task Force for more information.

All primary 7 pupils in the city receive a minimum of 12 x 1 hour swimming lessons in their final year in primary school. Find out more at
Scottish Swimming web site

In secondary schools, certificate courses for senior pupils will include Standard Grade and some levels in Higher Still. Find our more at SQA web site
