Pre 12 Strategy Project

photo of a new school in Glasgow

As part of this project, Glasgow City Council wishes to create an effective education environment for pupils and teachers. We believe that good quality schools, with good ventilation and natural light can contribute to improved health for its occupants, creating 21st Century classrooms

In selecting certain educational establishments, the Council has given consideration to the condition of existing buildings, future roll projections, opportunities to assist in the regeneration of the city and to the overall education provision

Phases 1, 2 and 3
The schools in this phase are now almost complete, with many opened already.

You can view a short film of Hazelwood School which sees the merger of Carnbooth and Kelvin schools into a customised, state-of-the-art school.

Proposals for Phase 4

Following on from the development of Phases 1, 2 and 3,  Education Services has continued to review the provision across the whole Pre-12 Estate. The Phase 4 Proposals were approved by Education Services Committee on 13th October 2005

The Council approved a financial package of more than £128 million that will see sixteen new campuses built at various locations across Glasgow

The 16 new buildings (incorporating 18 schools) will be Pre-12 campuses providing nursery and primary education. Two of them, at Ruchill and East Govan, will be multiplex campuses bringing together pre-5, denominational and non-denominational establishments

The new Easthall, Ruchill and St Vincent's schools will also include an element for Special Needs Education

Additional building works

Other building works associated with the Pre12 Strategy project include:

  • Langfaulds Primary  - reburbishment
  • Camstradden Primary (merger of Pinewood and Summerhill Primary schools and Chesters Nursery)
  • Kinning Park and Clutha Street Nurseries (relocated to new accommodation within the Lorne Street Primary campus in October/November 2005)
