The Council places immense importance on the professionalism and development of our staff. The quality of the service we provide is entirely dependent on the contribution that all our staff have to make.

As a new teacher in Glasgow, at whatever level, you will enjoy the support of an education authority which has always given a high priority to the professional development of teachers. Our professional development opportunities for teachers at all levels reflect our belief in the primacy of the classroom and the importance of the teaching and learning process

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Opportunities are available for teachers to access high quality and relevant professional development. Teachers are supported to meet the challenge of social inclusion within our professional development framework.

 

Leadership and Management

A range of opportunities exist to support staff at all stages develop leadership and management skills.

 

The Project Leadership Programme for teachers aspiring or newly appointed to Principal Teachers posts allow staff to achieve GCC accredication on successful completion.

 

GTC Professional recognition is also available to successful project leaders.

 

The council also provides extensive support for teachers progressing towards the Scottish Qualification for Headship (SQH) standard.

 
Electronic CPD Portfolio

A web-based system has been developed to support your professional development.  This system helps to identify personal professional priorities.  The electronic portfolio records your professional development throughout your career in education. The Continuous Professional Development CPD Portfolio is available to every teacher.

 

Partnerships with Universities

There are significant opportunities to gain formal accreditation for professional development activities through our partnerships with University of Glasgow and University of Strathclyde
