Bullying
Bullying is by no means a new phenomenon. It has always occurred throughout all societies, at all levels, and in all contexts. The increased openness about abuse generally, and the greater willingness in recent years of abuse victims to speak out about their experiences has led, among other things, to greater public awareness of the problem of bullying.
Bullyproofing Glasgow's schools
Glasgow City Council Education Services and its schools and educational establishments are committed to reducing the incidence and effects of bullying behaviour. It's policy on Anti-bullying, "Bullyproofing our schools", was launched in 1995 and revised in 1998.
As with any policy, it must be regularly and systematically reviewed to ensure that it is effective. In 2002, Glasgow Education Services held a conference for secondary school staff, pupils and parents to review policy and practice across the city and to celebrate the work already being done within school communities.
Two publications are available from that conference:
- Conference report (1.13Mb) - pdf
- What you should know: background reading
Some of the information from this booklet is provided on this page.
Each school also has it's own anti-bullying policy.
Scottish Government - Safer Scotland
