Psychological Service

Glasgow City Council’s Education Services employs a team of educational psychologists.  These psychologists operate on a quadrant basis, managed by an Area Principal Psychologist who is directly responsible to the Head of Service, Special Education Needs.

Educational Psychologists are closely involved in assessing and monitoring children and young people with a range of additional support needs, and work closely with SEN schools and units and New Learning Communities to develop the most appropriate learning and teaching approaches for all children and young people.

The core functions of the service are:

Educational psychologists work in partnership with parents and carers, statutory agencies including social work services and health services and other voluntary organisations and service providers.

Where there is a significant concern regarding developmental progress in a variety of areas, any pre-school child can be referred to the Pre-School Assessment Team (Pre-SCAT link). Pre-SCAT is a multi-agency forum where children with additional support  needs can have their case discussed.
