The Glasgow Schools ICT Network
There has been a major investment made in providing a supportive Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure for schools. All schools are now joined to a sophisticated interconnect for Education Services.
The networks at present have in excess of 16,000 personal computers and printers. The system is maintained to a high standard through the council's Managed Service.
As well as providing access to high quality Learning and Teaching software resources and content, the Schools Network provides every member of staff and pupil with secure access to e-mail, internet and personal document storage.
Learning through ICT (1.4Mb) extends beyond the use of personal computers with a significant increase in the use of interactive whiteboards, digital projectors and digital video and still photography; all enhancing the quality of Learning and Teaching taking place in Glasgow's classrooms.
Regeneration of the City
Glasgow City Council Education Services has a significant role to play in the physical, social and economic regeneration of the city.
Schools have a multi-dimensional role to fulfil in the theatre of regeneration, ensuring that pupils maximise their potential and are well placed to benefit from the learning process.
Positive, public perception of the school system in Glasgow is vital in attracting to and retaining families in the city.
