Speed Awareness Course

The Road Safety team at Glasgow City Council can advise individuals and businesses in all aspects of driver education.

Why should you attend a speed awareness course?

Research has shown that speed is a major contributory factor in about one third of all road accidents.  Driving too fast was the main cause of 1,200 deaths and more than 20,000 serious injuries on built up roads in the UK last year.  Statistics show the main cause of road crashes is a combination of anappropriate speed with some form of human error.  Speeding is bad driving.

Who should attend?

Drivers who have been driving for a number of years and have received no further professional driver training since passing the test.  Those drivers who are not sure how to recognise speed limits and where  they change.  Drivers who have been prosecuted for speeding and are concerned about rising insurance costs.

What are the course objectives?

  • Identify what causes you to speed
  • Identify the disadvantages of speeding
  • Identify different speed limit areas
  • Demonstarte the correct use of speed

Where are the assessments held?

The course has been arranged to accommodate your requirements using a fully equipped driving school vehicle.  The scheme is managed by Road Safety Officers and the course will be conducted by a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor.
