Commonwealth Graduate Fund

Commonwealth Graduate Fund

The Commonwealth Graduate Fund is a new initiative launched by the Leader of the Council, Gordon Matheson, in November 2011.

The Fund is worth £10million over four years and provides funding for 1000 graduate jobs in the city.

To qualify for support through the initiative, graduates must:

  • have been unemployed or underemployed post graduation for the last 13 weeks
  • live within the GCC Boundary
  • have gained your graduate qualification after May 2009
  • be legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom

In addition they must have graduated with a degree level qualification and be seeking full time work relevant to that degree.  Jobs will be based in the Glasgow area, although work outside the city is permitted as part of the normal duties of the post.

Organisations in the private and voluntary sectors may employ graduates through the initiative, but the jobs must be additional to any other graduate recruitment. Glasgow City Council will agree with employers on a case by case basis, any vacancies offered through the Initiative.

The scheme will be targeted at SMEs, but larger companies may be eligible.

Employers must pay at least the "Glasgow Living Wage", currently £7.20 per hour and the jobs must be for at least 35 hours per week.
