The Commonwealth Jobs Fund (CJF) is a new initiative launched by the Leader of Glasgow City Council, Gordon Matheson, at the State of the City Economy Conference on 17 November 2010.
The Fund aims to create 1000 jobs for young unemployed people across Glasgow and is open to every private and third sector employer in the city.
The CJF will be available to employers from 1st January 2011 and will provide them with up to £6,500 for each new job they create.
Tackling youth unemployment and supporting the local economy are two key priorities for the Council and this scheme will be aimed at young people aged 18-24 who have been unemployed for 13 weeks or more.
In recognition of the challenges faced by older workers in an ever competitive market place, Glasgow City Council has taken the initiative to respond to this and the demand of businesses for skilled and experienced employees by opening up the successful CJF to people over 50 years
Priority will be given to Glasgow Living Wage employers and employers in the private and third sectors who employ fewer than 250 people.
