Evacuation caused many problems in Rothesay and these are particularly well-documented in files which survive in the burgh's archives.
Evacuees were sent there from several schools, including some in some of the poorest areas in Glasgow.
The tension was heightened by Rothesay famously having 'spare' accommodation used for summer letting and holiday homes.
When householders lost income from this accommodation, or lost the use of their houses, some lost forbearance with the, real or imagined, difficulties caused by the evacuees.
