Painting of rescue workers on bomb site in Maryhill

The aftermath

The immediate aftermath of the bombing was the same in all areas of the country. The people mourned family and neighbours who had died. At the same time, the survivors had to find medical treatment, food and shelter for themselves.

The authorities were well-organised to provide most of this in Glasgow where the scale of the bombing was small for the size of the city and its resources.

A few of the people who were bombed out were able to return to their homes, but on the whole the local community was scattered.
