Opportunity Day at Hillhead Library and Learning Centre

On Friday 17th October representatives from local community groups, businesses and community charities will be on hand from 11am until 4pm offering a wealth of FREE support and advice on all kinds of topics from Healthy Living to further education, careers and training.

In addition, there will be a variety of other events taking place throughout the day

Children’s programme

11am – 4pm Activ8 Gym (mobile gym for 8-14 year olds)
11am – 4pm Open Museum Handling Kits
11am – 1pm Arts & Crafts sessions for children 5 – 12 years
12noon – 1pm Animal Petting Zoo for children 5 – 12 years
2pm – 3pm Bounce & Rhyme for 0 – 3 year old babies and their parents/carers.

All events are FREE

What makes a truly great children's book? 

The Carnegie Medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book for children and young people. The Kate Greenaway Medal is awarded by children's librarians for an outstanding book in terms of illustration for children and young people. The winners were announced on Thursday 26th June, 2008.

And the 2008 winners are.......

WH Smith Children's Book of the year 2008

And the winner is.....the ever popular Horrid Henry:

'Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman', by Francesca Simon & Tony Ros Four new stories about Horrid Henry, in which he builds a snowman, sets up a makeover business, gets in trouble with a famous author and writes his will.
