Where we are
Archives is housed on level 2 in The Mitchell next to Special Collections. Although both areas work in partnership as Archives and Special Collections, each clearly retains its own unique identity. You will notice some differences in procedures and in some of the ways services are delivered and when they are available. Opening hours.
What we have and how to access it
Archives is responsible for the selection, preservation and management of both official and private historical records, particularly those relating to Glasgow, and providing public access to these records. Catalogues, card indexes and searchable computer databases are available in the search room.
Before you visit
If you are visiting you do not need to have made a prior booking. However, if you already know what you want ,you can also order material in advance by contacting the Duty Archivist before you visit.

*Please note that material from the Archives Collections is not available on Monday and Wednesday evenings after 5pm.
Documents normally take 15 to 20 minutes to be produced. Between 1pm and 2pm documents cannot be produced. All documents should be returned 30 minutes before the search room is due to close.
