School Archives   Archives and Special Collections at The Mitchell have a collection of school archives which is unrivalled in Scotland.     We have an excellent set of school records for Glasgow and less complete sets for the former Strathclyde areas of Bute, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.     If you are interested in records from these areas, please contact us to check if we have the records for the schools in which you are interested.     We hold archives of schools under the jurisdiction of local authorities, including non-denominational and Roman Catholic schools.  We have few archives for fee-paying schools. If you are interested in the archives of a fee-paying school, please contact us for advice.     School archives mainly consist of Admission Registers and Log Books:
Admission Registers - these are the main source of pupil information and can contain the following information about each pupil: name, date of birth, address, date of admission and date of leaving Log Books - these are journals kept by the head teacher and can include information such as staff and pupil absence figures, fire drills and visitors to the school. Restrictions on Access   You are welcome to view your own records but otherwise, archives are closed for 30 years. Some registers contain sensitive information about pupils, for example the results of IQ tests. These archives are closed for 75 years.   Log Books may also contain sensitive information and therefore these are closed for 50 years.   Examination results can be obtained from the Scottish Qualifications Authority, Hanover House, 24 Douglas Street, Glasgow.   Class and pupil photographs may also be found at  Scotland Street Museum
