The first Glasgow Great Scottish Walk will be held on 25 May 2008 at Bellahouston Park.  The Glasgow Great Wee Scottish takes place at Glasgow Green on 11 May 2008.

The Great Scottish Walks have established themselves as one of Scotland’s premier fundraising events, since their launch in Edinburgh in 1998. They are proud to announce that 2008 sees the introduction of the first Glasgow Great Scottish Walk, which will be held on 25 May 2008 at Bellahouston Park and starts at 11.00am from Palace of Art. The routes (1, 6 or 12 miles) are designed to take in the cities leafiest parks scenery and this is the first time that a walk will take place in the city that enables residents and visitors to the city alike to walk all five of the cities great parks.

Along the way walkers and supporters will be treated to entertainment along the route and when they reach the finishing line they are greeted with a carnival atmosphere in the form of vibrant music from samba bands and the announcement and cheering of entrants across the finishing line. 

The routes are now available at www.greatscottishwalk.com to view. Parks included in the route are Pollok Country Park, Bellahouston Park, Queen’s Park, Maxwell Park and Newlands Park. 


Entry

Entry to the walks costs £10 for adults and £8 for children under 18 years. Walkers completing the course will receive a goody bag along with a medal and certificate.

Wee Walks

The Glasgow Great Wee Scottish Walk takes place at Glasgow Green on 11 May 2008. These mini walks are designed to actively encourage young people to become more socially aware by participating in fundraising events, and introducing fun physical activities as a means of targeting and eliminating the problem of childhood obesity. The Wee Walks include a two mile walk, two mile fun run, toddlers romp, teddy bears picnic, bouncy castle, face painting, Chaplin’s disco bus and local produce stalls.  All entrants will receive a goody bag, certificate and medal and entry is £5 – parents and guardians go free.
