Countryside Ranger Service

Glasgow City Council Countryside Ranger Service work with the people of Glasgow to educate, interpret, monitor and protect Glasgow's wildlife and its environment.

The work of a Countryside Ranger is very varied, with major areas being:

  • environmental education
  • practical conservation works
  • countryside events
  • wildlife surveys
  • working with communities

The Countryside Ranger Service is also involved in the development and implementation of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which sets out the rights and responsibilities of recreational users given in the Land Reform (Scotland) Act.

Glasgow City Council Countryside Ranger Service was formed in 1983 and employs 12 main grade and 1 senior ranger, with extra staff employed on a temporary basis during the busy summer months. The service operates city wide covering 74 parks and greenspaces in Glasgow, with bases at Pollok Country Park and Tollcross Park.

If you would like to contact the Countryside Ranger Service you can visit one of our base sites below, phone us or e-mail us on: countryside.rangers@ls.glasgow.gov.uk
