Local Nature Reserve Celebrations 2006
Over 400 people turned out to celebrate Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) in Glasgow this July. Events were held at Hogganfield Park LNR, Garscadden Wood LNR and Robroyston Park LNR to highlight the importance of local wildlife.

Environmental activities were available for people of all ages to participate in, including guided walks, games and quizzes. The events, run by a number of different environmental organisations, varied slightly from site to site depending on local community involvement, which helped make each event unique. At Robroyston Park LNR there was even the chance to join in with CLS Youth Services to learn a musical instrument and provide entertainment on the day.
Everyone got the chance to make a positive difference to their local area through helping to create wildflower meadows and constructing insect boxes. Volunteers from the Scottish Wildlife Trust and BTCV Scotland also constructed hibernacula at each site, to provide winter shelter for amphibians such as frogs.

These events were organised in partnership with the Conservation Group (Land Services), Kelvin Clyde Greenspace, Countryside Ranger Service (Land Services) and Scottish Natural Heritage.
