Wildlife Sites
Currently there are 5 nationally important ‘Sites of Special Scientific Importance’ (SSSIs) designated by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), six Local Nature Reserves (LNRs), two proposed LNRs, 36 ‘Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation’ of City-wide importance (City-wide SINCs), 11 Important Corridors of Wildlife and Landscape Importance (based largely on City’s transport and river systems) and 39 SINCs of Local importance (Local SINCs).
These sites support a wide range of plants and animals and recent wildlife reports are recorded on a regular basis.
Development and Regeneration Services and Land and Environmental Services monitor and update the Wildlife and Nature Conservation Policy, particularly with respect to other Glasgow City Council policies, Scottish Executive guidance, and resurveying of SINCs.

The Council recognises that each site’s status can be upgraded (or even downgraded) in the light of new survey work, which may also identify new candidate sites for SINC status.
