Hedgerows are recognised as a valuable habitat resource capable of supporting a good variety of plants and animals whilst also providing a corridor for wildlife movement and colonisation. In addition they have a traditional role in stock control, boundary identity and landscape aesthetics.
A City-wide survey is currently in progress to assess the status of hedgerows in
Glasgow. The results will provide information on the health, variety, conservation value and extent of the hedgerow network within the City. The data collected will be used in providing recommendations for hedgerow management, and will provide a baseline of information against which future changes can be monitored.
