Local school children from Castleton Primary School and John Paul II Primary School were among the keen volunteers who helped, as well as BTCV Scotland volunteers and local people. There were guided walks to explore the wildlife to be found nearby in Holmbyre Wood. Bird and bat boxes were made at the event by the children, and were taken back to be put up at their schools.
International Biodiversity Day- 22nd May
An Eco Schools event was held on International Biodiversity Day.
300 school children from Primary Schools around Glasgow visited Kelvingrove Park to find out more about biodiversity and help make a difference.
Wildlife tours of the park looked at the range of animals and plants to be found. Close inspection under logs and plants revealed a whole host of minibeasts.

A wildflower meadow was created as a lasting legacy of the event. Nearly 1000 wildflowers were planted to create a new meadow, adjacent to an existing area. This now provides an extended wildlife habitat.
Bird feeders and wildflower seeds were taken back to the schools to help improve the biodiversity of the school grounds.

RSPB Aren’t Birds Brilliant!
On the weekend of 24th and 25th May the RSPB ran guided walks around Kelvingrove Park. Everyone got the chance to make a bird box at the Make a Bird a Home event, and garden birds will now be benefiting from this.

Funding for some of the above events was provided by BBC Breathing Places, CSV Action Earth- Scottish Natural Heritage Biodiversity Awards 2008, Landfill Tax Credit Scheme, and Glasgow City Council.
