Gardening jobs for November

 

 

In the Vegetable and Fruit Garden
Clear up fallen leaves. Cover brassicas with netting if pigeons are a problem. Stop winter moth damage to fruit trees using grease bands around the trunks.

Bulbs and Herbaceous Plants
Clear up fallen leaves, fork out weeds and weed roots Plant tulip bulbs for a spring display next year.

On the Lawn
Clear up fallen leaves.

Flower border/Patio area
Clear up fallen leaves Raise containers onto pot feet to prevent water-logging. Plant out winter bedding.

The Shrub Border
Clear up fallen leaves.

In the Glasshouse and Conservatory
Insulate the greenhouse from frost bubble-wrap works well.

Ponds
Clear up fallen leaves this will help prevent algae bloom next summer.

Roses
Lightly prune bush roses now, if not done already, as reducing their height will prevent wind-rock. Roses are generally shallow rooted and can become loose in the soil if buffeted by strong winds.

The Compost Heap
Compost all green waste.

Recycle 
Remember – minimise your waste!
Add all green waste, including vegetable peelings from the kitchen, to your Compost heap or Compost bin.
Recycle Paper, Cardboard, Glass Bottles and Jars, Plastic.
Collect rainwater in a water butt for the glasshouse, and investigate ways to recycle water for irrigation.

Others
Put out bird food to encourage winter birds into the garden.
