About The Shortlisted Projects

Friends of Tollcross Park - Terraced Wetland Lagoon Project
Since the ‘Friends of Tollcross Park’ were founded they have been working closely with Glasgow City Council and with the local community, to protect, conserve and restore Tollcross Park to its former glory, and explore the potential for new activities to revitalize the area.
The Terraced Lagoon project comprises of sensitively constructing a lagoon pond adjacent the Tollcross burn on the existing site of the former pond and weir, this was an original feature of the park during the early 1900’s. This project will also consist of important features such as significant trees, other plants and planting, landform, water feature and ecological habitats.
It is envisaged that a wide range of communities would benefit from the project including local residential and surrounding business communities, less physically able and less active communities, the learning community, city residents and workers, the wider Glasgow population, visitors and tourists and a world wide community reached via internet accessibility.

The Friends of Tollcross Park group wants to encourage local people to use this Greenspace, and bring back quality, beauty, and shared stewardship to our historic parkland.
Friends Of Provan Hall - Archaeological Investigation

Provan Hall, a National Trust monument said to be the finest and most complete example of a pre reformation baronial mansion, is situated within Auchinlea Park. The park is now a compact 20 acres. The Glasgow FORT retail centre now forms the southern boundary of the park.
Recently the Friends of Provan Hall have submitted a bid for National Lottery funding through the People’s Millions Scheme and have been confirmed short listed for this award.
If successful, the project aims to unearth hidden archaeology in the area that may provide clues to the age and form of this medieval site.
If enough people vote for this project, it will significantly raise the profile of the local community by encouraging more visitors to this historic site as well as providing education and fun for many of the local residents.
This will be a locally driven archaeological project which enables the whole community, volunteers and school children to record and investigate the remains and History of Provan Hall, one of Glasgow’s oldest buildings.
